Due to the presence of social media, we almost completely forgot how it feels like to write a letter to our special someone. I bet the younger generation, nowadays, have no idea what it feels like to write and receive a written letter from other people because we already have Facebook, Twitter, Facetime, etc., where we can instantly connect with our loved ones in one click, especially with our Overseas Filipino Workers. But Lea, an OFW working as a caregiver in Italy, constantly updates her mother (who is not tech-savvy and who prefers the conventional method of letter writing) about what’s happening on her work and herself via snail mail.
Kamusta na po kayo ni Papa? Okay na po ba yung likod mo? Magpacheck up ka na if sumasakit pa din po. I hope everything is fine sa inyo. Everytime na homesick ako, iniisip ko nalang na kasama ko kayo eating my favorite pinakbet while watching our favorite noontime show. Anyway, everything is going fine here. Actually, perfect nga po kasi I have no problem on my new work especially with my boss. She’s very sweet and nice. So stop worrying about me, Ma. I have friends here that can help and rescue me anytime if something happens. Hahaha! Joke lang, Ma!
By the way, Ma, nagpost si bunso ng pictures niyo nung holiday. Bakit parang hindi ka man lang tumataba, while si Papa lalong lumalaki ang tiyan. Everytime I see your pictures, nawawala ang pagod ko at bigla akong nagkakaroon ng lakas. I’m sorry, Ma, if hindi ako natuloy umuwi last Christmas. Gustuhin ko man, but I can’t. I hope you all understand. Do you still remember when I told you about my first holiday here, Ma? I spent it crying because I missed you all. Naiinggit pa ako dati sa iba kasi they are with their family spending the holiday. Masaya naman po yung holiday dito, we even prepared a small party for us. Nagkita na kami nina Tita Karen; anyway, she looked good, Ma. She told me she has a friend working in Camella and she assured me na okay naman yung payment scheme nila. Compare to other real estate brands. I heard they offer different house models at affordable prices. So may napili na po ba kayo? I also have a friend here who owns a house in Camella. Well, he has positive feedback about Camella based on his experience. Did you like the residential area around the property? I want you and Papa to choose the house and lot because this is my gift to you after all the sacrifices you gave for me and bunso. I’m starting to save up for the downpayment, so baka hindi po ako makapagbigay sa inyo in a while.
I hope sa pag uwi ko, Ma, dun na tayo nakatira and mag-celebrate ng Christmas and New Year with our new house and lot. I’ll send another letter next time with a post card para sweet. Haha! I miss you, Ma. Please tell Papa that I miss him, too. I love you!
In Lea’s letter, we see that one of the most important reasons why OFWs endure being away from their family to earn more, is to give their family a good home. Good thing that Lea knows how to invest her hard-earned money to something that will be a trophy of her sacrifices: a comfortable home for her family.
Hello ‘Nak! I’m so worried the last few months so I was praying to the Lord na sana maging mabait yung boss mo sa’yo and He never disappoints us. Thank Him ‘Nak because He’s the one who led you to your new boss.
Masaya naman kami dito. But we know deep inside our heart that we’ll never be complete without you. Wag mo na isipin masyado how much you missed us. Just enjoy there and live the moment. Pero I understand how you’re feeling, ‘Nak. It's hard on your part kasi nag-iisa ka lang diyan. Wala si Mama and Papa to guide you, as well as bunso to cheer, but remember Nak, whatever distance we are apart, we’re always on your heart.
Please tell her that I said hi.Sinamahan ako ni bunso na pumunta sa Camella. Maganda yung location, ‘Nak, kasi along residential area. Inikot kami ng seller sa place. Well, okay siya kasi meron silang 24/7 security na umiikot around the properties. And may shuttle services palabas ng village so hindi mahihirapan si bunso maglakad, if ever. Meron din silang pool, ’Nak. Sabi ni bunso, amenities daw tawag dun like park and basketball court. I’m sure mae-enjoy namin ni Papa mo dun maglakad every morning. Pumasok din kami sa mga model houses. Maganda naman ang space ng bahay. ‘Yung Carmela model, maganda, ‘Nak, kasi meron siyang 3 bedrooms. Pero ikaw pa rin mag-decide kasi that will be your future property.
Sabi ng seller that’s one of the benefits living in the masterplanned community ng Camella daw. I think magugustuhan mo din dun. Kaya sabihan mo nalang pag gusto mo dun.
I miss you, ‘Nak! Sabi ni Papa, mag ingat ka palagi and always pray. Kumain everyday, okay? Take care of yourself always! I love you!
With the booming real estate market in the Philippines, now is the best time for OFWs to invest on a residential property: banks offer the lowest-ever interest rates and government financing institutions are aggressive, as well.
Gone are the days when OFWs only send imported items such as canned goods, clothes, toys, gadgets and electronic equipment to their loved ones. They are smarter now; they know how to put their money in the safest investment, that is, real estate.
A wise advice from Lea’s mother: “Hindi pwedeng OFW ka forever.” Hence, save up and spend your money wisely.
